Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups cooked black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
For Cooking
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for pan-frying

Method

Steps
  1. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, red onion, garlic, cumin, chili powder, lime juice, 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 0.75 inch thick.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings such as avocado, lettuce, tomato, and a dollop of chipotle mayo.
