Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup butter unsalted, softened
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts optional

Method

Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips and butter together in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Let cool slightly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Slowly stir in the melted chocolate mixture.
  4. Gently fold in the flour and salt until just combined. Stir in the chopped walnuts, if using.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Allow the chocolate bars to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment overhang. Cut into 4 equal bars and serve.

Notes

Store leftover chocolate bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For a fudgier texture, reduce baking time by 2–3 minutes. These bars also freeze well—wrap individually and freeze for up to 2 months.
