Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips and butter together in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Let cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Slowly stir in the melted chocolate mixture.
- Gently fold in the flour and salt until just combined. Stir in the chopped walnuts, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the chocolate bars to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment overhang. Cut into 4 equal bars and serve.
Notes
Store leftover chocolate bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For a fudgier texture, reduce baking time by 2–3 minutes. These bars also freeze well—wrap individually and freeze for up to 2 months.
