Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup pitted fresh cherries, finely chopped Ensure all pits are removed—cherry pits are toxic to dogs
  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free) Check label to ensure no xylitol, which is toxic to dogs
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Optional, for flavor

Method

Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, grind the oats into a fine flour-like consistency.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oat flour, chopped cherries, peanut butter, egg, applesauce, and cinnamon. Mix until a thick dough forms.
  4. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 0.25-inch thickness. Use small bone-shaped cookie cutters to cut out treats.
  5. Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until golden and firm.
  6. Let the treats cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

Always consult your veterinarian before introducing new foods to your dog's diet. These treats are intended for supplemental feeding only. Avoid using cherries with pits, as they contain cyanide and are dangerous for pets.
