Steps
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Fold in chopped cherries, walnuts (if using), and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are set but centers still look soft.
- Let cookies cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best results, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking to prevent spreading. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days. These cookies also freeze well for up to 3 months!
