Ingredients

Crust
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.5 tsp salt pinch
Cherry Topping
  • 2 cup fresh cherries pitted
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.125 tsp almond extract
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter melted

Method

Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, powdered sugar, melted butter, and salt until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the crust mixture into the prepared pan, covering the bottom evenly. Bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. While the crust bakes, combine cherries, granulated sugar, almond extract, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until the mixture thickens and the cherries are softened (about 5 minutes).
  5. Remove the pan from the oven and spread the cherry mixture evenly over the baked crust. Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
  6. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the topping is set. Cool completely before slicing into 4 bars.
