Steps
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, powdered sugar, melted butter, and salt until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press the crust mixture into the prepared pan, covering the bottom evenly. Bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
- While the crust bakes, combine cherries, granulated sugar, almond extract, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until the mixture thickens and the cherries are softened (about 5 minutes).
- Remove the pan from the oven and spread the cherry mixture evenly over the baked crust. Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
- Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the topping is set. Cool completely before slicing into 4 bars.
