Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji) cored and halved
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons water

Method

Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish large enough to hold the apple halves in a single layer.
  2. Core the apples and cut them in half. Place the apple halves cut-side up in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the cut sides of the apples.
  4. Place a small piece of butter on top of each apple half. Pour the water into the bottom of the baking dish.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Baste the apples with the pan juices halfway through baking.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of honey.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of vanilla extract or a pinch of cloves to the spice mix. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently before serving.
