Steps
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the egg, then add milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Mix well.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 0.5-inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or a round cookie cutter (about 3 inches) to cut out donuts. Use a smaller cutter for the center hole.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add donuts, 2–3 at a time, and fry for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove donuts with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- While still warm, toss donuts in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon (if using) until evenly coated.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your quick homemade donuts!
Notes
Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat briefly in the oven or air fryer to restore crispness. For a baked version, bake at 350°F for 10–12 minutes instead of frying.
