- In a microwave-safe mug, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Stir until the batter is smooth and no lumps remain.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips on top (if using) and gently press them into the batter.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Cooking time may vary by microwave; the cake is done when it rises and appears set on top.
- Let cool for 1 minute before enjoying. Serve with a scoop of ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Use a large mug (at least 10 oz) to prevent overflow. Do not overmix the batter. For a richer flavor, substitute milk with almond milk or add a pinch of espresso powder.
