Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 15 oz crushed tomatoes canned
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese divided
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Method

Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until meat is browned and onion is soft, about 8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, combine cooked spaghetti, meat sauce, and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese. Mix well.
  6. Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish. Top with remaining 1 cup mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey for beef and use part-skim mozzarella. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
